The project site has been elevated to a maximum design flood level of 73 meters to mitigate the risk of flooding.
The project are is being elevated using the hydraulic landfill method, a common method in land reclamation. A sand-water mixture is pumped into a designated area enclosed by small levees. As the sand settle near the point of discharge, the water exits through a spillway. Bulldozers are then used to distribute the sand evenly, ensuring uniform thickness across the reclaimed land.
Sediment removed from the riverbed for use as land fill material will help the river morphology adjust to a new equilibrium. This approach also helps minimize the formation of downstream sedimentation waves, which could otherwise impact navigability. The volume and area of sediment removed from the river have been followed in accordance with the authority guidelines.
