MBCCD engaged Deltares for river engineering and morphology consultancy services for the Amarapura River City project.
Deltares is an independent knowledge institute based in Delft, Netherland. The institute have been providing reliable experties in the field of water and subsurface for almost a hundred years.
– Ph.D Technical Sciences, M.Sc. Civil Engineering
Dr Kees Sloff is a project engineer and researcher in the field of river engineering. He is an expert in river, delta and estuary hydrology, morphology, sediment transport, as well as modeling techniques and mathematical-modeling. Under Deltares, he provided consultancy services in river engineering and morphology for Amarapura River City.
Dr Sloff has been involved and in charge of projects on various types of rivers worldwide, ranging from steep mountain rivers to flat lowland rivers and river delta’s, and the different categories of technical and management problems associated with these types.
Dr Sloff also holds the position of Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at the Delft University, contributing to research and educational activities in the river engineering group. Dr. Sloff has published more than 50 scientific publications, of which 30 in peer-reviewed conference publications and scientific journals, since 1990.
– Ph.D study: Transformation Peat undrained calc. | M.Sc. Civil Engineering
Dr. Cor Zwanenburg is a leading expert in soft soil engineering, specializing in issues related to embankments and landfills, including stability, settlement, consolidation, and creep. As part of Deltares, he provided consultancy services for revetment design in the Amarapura River City project.
Dr. Zwanenburg has contributed to numerous second opinions on stability and settlement-related challenges. From 2008 to 2012, he also lectured on “Embankments on Soft Soil” at TU Delft.
For Amrapura River City, he presented a range of flood protection strategies and tailored design solutions to effectively address the geotechnical challenges of each approach.
– MSc Civil Engineering (River and Coastal Hydraulics) | B.A Economics
MBCCD invited Mr. Henry Opdam as an independent third-party reviewer to assess the work conducted by Deltares.
He has been Project Director, Project Manager and Team Leader of water resources management, coastal and river engineering projects in a wide range of countries in Europe, South America, Africa and Asia.
The projects ranged from reconnaissance and appraisal missions, master planning and (pre-)feasibility studies to detailed design, supervision and institutional capacity building. Mr Opdam is completely familiar with all management, institutional, technical, economic, financial and environmental issues of water resources, coastal and river development projects.
Mr Opdam is a part-time advisor to the MER Commission and lecturer river engineering at UNESCO-IHE in Delft.
He was involved in expert missions for the Government of the Netherlands (GON), World Bank and EBRD to China, Bangladesh, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Russian Federation, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
